We created Harvest Thyme to tackle the challenges faced by home gardeners with busy schedules, just like us. As lovers of the outdoors, we enjoy growing our own fruits, vegetables, and herbs, but juggling our hectic lives often leaves little time for garden planning and care. Over the years, we’ve discovered that proper watering and strategic plant placement are crucial for gardening success. That’s why we designed the Harvest Thyme system to simplify gardening for everyone, regardless of experience level or time commitment, by addressing these key factors and more.

The journey of developing Harvest Thyme sensors began in 2021. Brian, an electrical engineer, meticulously designed the sensor system from the inner circuitry and software code to the external shell. In 2022, we put the basic system to the test by planting a cut flower garden on a friend’s land over an hour away from our home. Thanks to solar energy, we successfully monitored soil moisture levels from the comfort of our home. In 2023, Cindy developed our comprehensive plant database, organizing watering requirements and other essential needs of common residential plants, while determining the functionalities required for the Harvest Thyme app. In 2024, Brian built the app himself, and we proudly launched Harvest Thyme for our community in East Tennessee.

Beyond gardening, we share a passion for cooking together almost every night. Our backyard boasts a small fruit grove, three raised bed vegetable gardens, and a hydroponic herb and lettuce garden. We relish in the delight of consuming fresh, homegrown produce. Brian holds an MBA with an emphasis on data analytics in addition to his degree in electrical engineering, while Cindy is a Nurse Practitioner and the CEO of a geriatric medical practice in East Tennessee. Together, we are blessed with five children (two girls and three boys), a golden doodle, and a yorkie.
